Pencil drawing is the cornerstone of my work. Imostly use colors but still sometimes fall for the occasional standard blackpencil. It ranges from very quick sketches that capture feelings, sensations,to highly detailed designs for which I often use templates. Such advanceddrawings unfortunately often lose the impact of the sketches they originatefrom. I use Photoshop to colorize my drawings but only all so slightly so I canpush the idea I have in mind a bit forward. It’s fair to say that I spend lots oftime sharpening pencils and crumpling sheets of paper.

In the following tutorial, I’m illustrating thevery birth of a pencil sketch and its rendering. As usual my wish was to makean extraordinary machine, although I actually had no specific design in mind.I’m fond of letting myself being surprised by the risky path the first lines ofa drawing lead me to. Let the games begin. I use both sides of the sheet eachtime, making perspective corrections, changes of style and to the details tothe final idea. Turning the sheet and doing the drawing on that side as well isa great technic to correct imperfections. This is really useful, especially inthe beginning.

So I designed this spectacular double axlelimousine powered by complex engines located in the wheels. I really enjoyedmyself going so far into the details of these engines. They are made of glasstubes through which the fluid sometimes causes arcs of electricity, and allsorts of other effects. It would be visually hypnotic and with intimidatingsounds as well because of electrical shocks.
